THE TREES THAT DISAPPEARED AND CAME BACK

KÄMPETORPSSKOLAN, SCHOOLYARD, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN 2020

Assignment: Permanent, Outdoor and Site-specific artwork for the school yard.
Commissioned by: Stockholms konst and SISAB

The artwork, The trees that disappeared and came back, takes it starting point in reusing the trees, rowan, birch and chestnut, which were cut down to make room for the new school buildings.

The artwork consists of three bronze sculptures placed on concrete plinths. The concrete plinths are similar to the seating walls which can be seen elsewhere in the school yard. There are a total of six concrete plinths in two heights placed so that create a space.

The bronze sculptures have a construction principle in common. 3-dimensional sculptures are created from 2-dimensional wooden discs in a manner which encourage abstract thinking.
